A step frame chassis is a chassis that is lowered from the landing legs to the tail end. The great advantage of this type of chassis is that it is possible to increase the volume without increasing the total height. This allows the height of the trailer to be adjusted for particular types of feeding machines and telescopic handlers. The step frame chassis has the additional, yet important advantage that it slightly lowers the centre of gravity of the loaded semi-trailer. This in turn increases stability and also leads to greater safety.
